Weight Loss: How Long To Reach Your Goal
One of the questions raised when it comes to weight loss is how long does it take for someone to get their weight down? For you to be able to determine just how long it is going to take for you to reach your desired weight, you first need to get information about your body's composition.
The first thing you have to do is work out how much of your body weight is body mass (muscle and bone) and how much of it is fat. There are certain calculations one can use which can help to work out what percentage of your body is made up of fat and what percentage is made up of body mass.
For men, they need to not only weigh themselves but they also need to measure the circumference of their waist. As for women, along with weighing themselves there are several other measurements that they need to take in order to calculate out how much body fat they have. They need to measure the circumference of their waist, hips, wrist and forearm.
There are plenty of sites online that explain the calculations you need to carry out and allow you to just enter the measurements you have taken and the calculations will be done for you. Once you know what percentage of fat your body is made up of, you can then start to determine how long it is going to take for you to burn it off.
To work out how long it is going to take you to lose weight you need to deduct what you want to weigh from what you currently weigh. Say for example you weigh 220 lbs and you want to weigh 203 lbs then the amount you are looking to lose is 17 lbs.
If you then calculate that on average you can expect to lose just 1 lb each week whilst on your weight loss program, then it will take around 17 weeks for you to reach your weight loss goal. But remember when calculating how long it is going to take you to lose weight you need to remember that you are trying to burn off the fat but keep the muscle.
The diet and exercise regime you use should be one that ensures that this occurs. Setting a goal of losing just 1 lb a week will help you to do so safely without having to resort to dire methods such as starving yourself.
The problem when it comes to weight loss and how long it takes to achieve the desired goals will also depend upon a person's determination and will power to stick with the new dietary and exercise regime. Many people also tend to give up if they don't see any physical changes in the first couple of weeks.
